How old do you need to be to start karate?
I offer classes as young as 4 years of age to 60 years of age.
Do you offer a free trial class?
Yes. I do offer a free trial class, and we highly recommended it. As it gives you an opportunity to join other students and see how I run my class. After your free trial I will endeavour to answer any questions that you may have.
How many classes a week are recommended?
Our little ninja’s who are 4 and 5 years of age, they train once a week. Students 6years and above are recommended to attend two classes per week and for higher level belts its highly recommended to attend an additional Friday or Saturday class.
Can my child do karate if he/she is not the sporty type?
Yes! in fact, karate is fantastic for kids who don’t excel at team sport. With karate everyone trains at their own pace, unlike a team sport where kids might feel they are letting the team down or not up to standard.
What level of fitness is required for Karate?
There is no pressure to be fit, as you work at your own pace, karate will provide you with the skills necessary such as improve flexibility, coordination balance, muscle strength and muscle tone, I hear concerns such as “I am not fit enough” but remember you train to get fit. You don’t need to get fit to train.
Do you have belt levels?
Yes. The grading procedure typically involves a training session where experienced karate ka (Open Hand) examine the performance of the students, including basic techniques, self defence etc.
In general the further you advance in the study of karate the more precision will be expected in the performance of all techniques. Familiarity with Dojo etiquette and the Japanese terminology is also expected.
How do we get started?
